Depression

Sometimes we can feel upset or sad - it would be strange if we were happy all the time!  But if the bad feelings haven't left you after a few weeks then you may be depressed.  This section of the website wants to help you understand your feelings so that you can begin getting your life back on track.

Remember that even if you are feeling hopeless at the moment, depression is a treatable illness, and the bad feelings will not stay with you forever.

Self Help

It can often be our closest relationships that suffer the most when we are depressed.  We withdraw into ourselves and end up feeling isolated and unwanted.

Here are some tips on how to prevent feelings of isolation and loneliness:

Don't wait for your friends & family to read your mind, talk to them and tell them what's wrong.

Don't wait to be invited out to do something.  Text, email or phone your friends and suggest something you could do together.

Write down your feelings in a diary

Here are some websites that may help you if you are feeling depressed:

Breathing Space is a free and confidential help line service for someone who is feeling really low or worried.  The website talks about depression and other mental health problems; explaining how you might feel etc.

My only real advice for anyone is to avoid the happy pills. Its very addictive and it just makes it worse and you lose the sense of who you are. You become emotionally numb with the rare moments of panic and dread and you lose interest in everything. All it does is hide the problems but it never gets rid of it. Its probably best to get real help like talking to somebody. Its a long process and i'm still going through it but i'm optimistic about it so far.
