Calman Trust. Leaving HOME in the Highlands

Isobel Grigor

My Job: My job is to lead the Calman service, to help us keep improving what we offer young people and to plan for the future.
Happiest when: With people I'm comfortable with, who know me well, and when Rangers are winning.
Scared of: Not much - comes with growing older, I think.
Music I like: I listen to music a lot.  I guess I like music that tells a story I can connect with, so (you need a good memory for some of these) Beth Neilsen Chapman, Van Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Billy Joel, plus most sacred or classic music, and Scottish folk.
Favourite Films: When I see a film I like I tend to remember it forever, so The Jungle Book, Babette's Feast and Apollo 13.
Things that annoy me: Nothing I can think of - life's too short.
Things I couldn’t live without: Relationships that I can depend on; my faith, family, friends, plus assorted cats and dogs - and things to do that feel worth doing.  Great colleagues.  At weekends, breakfast in bed with a good book.  Strawberries - anytime.

Andrew Nixseaman - Operations Manager

My Job: My job is to manage the day to day activities of the service, and to make sure that all the teams work well together so that we can continue to offer the best quality of services and combinations of services to anybody that we are working with. I also have the responsibility of ensuring that we are looking after the safety of young people who work with Calman and to make sure that it is a fun and inspiring service to be involved with. This is a great job, as I get the chance to work with all sorts of talented and interesting folk, both staff and young people, and never stop learning from everybody involved with Calman
Happiest when: Most of the time really, I am fairly easily pleased.  I like sitting about with friends and family,
having too much to eat and blethering into the
wee small hours.
Scared of: Birds in confined spaces that flap around irrationally.  Also scared of jumping into water - I don't mind diving, but your nostrils point in the wrong direction to make jumping a sensible move - trust me - don't do it.
Music I like: Bit of a sad oldie, like the Stones, the Beatles, Neil Young, Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, Janice Joplin, and most reggae.
Favourite Films: The Usual Suspects, When Harry Met Sally, the first three Star Wars films (episodes 4, 5 & 6), and the first two Godfather films.
Things that annoy me: Lots of things - Post Offices that take a half day.  Marks & Spencers, road signs that are far too big and light up with stupid messages like 'This sign is not in use', private dentists, crimpoline, Last of the Summer Wine, The Smiths, tax exiles...and there's alot more!
Things I couldn’t live without:  Marmite, Guinness, bubble wrap, my bike, my wife and my children but not necessarily in that order.  I also use a lot of Tippex and would struggle to get by without it!

 Helena Bryce - Training Manager

It’s my job to develop the training facilities at Calman to make sure there are a variety of exciting training opportunities for young people. I lead a team of trainers who help young people develop their skills, decide what they want to do in the future and know how to get there.

Happiest when:
Chilling out with special folks, summertime, comedy gigs and running (but not all at the same time).
Scared of: Horror films – there’s no point watching from behind the sofa! Not too thrilled with flying either – there’s something scary about sitting at 33,000 feet with nothing but clouds between you and the ground.
Music I like: I’m into all sorts of music - special mention to Karine Polwart, Paolo Nutini and Eddi Reader
Favourite Films: Favourites change but In Bruges, The Piano, Gregory’s Girl (yep that was my secondary school and full of people I know), Sliding Doors and Toy Story.
Things that annoy me: Queues, rude and insensitive people, plastic packaging on fruit and veg., football on the radio, sports cars, trifle (you can’t mix sponge cake with jelly).
Things I couldn’t live without:
My husband, my children, my running shoes, family & friends, chilli crisps, laughter, music, soup and sunshine.

Jo MacKay - Housing Support Team Leader

I am a housing support team leader.

Happiest when: I'm sitting out in the sunshine amongst my friends and family.
Scared of: Terrified of spiders and heights!
Music I like: Kasabian, Paolo Nutini, Razorlight and Muse!
Favourite Films: The Breakfast Club and Terminator 2.
Things that annoy me: Rude-surley sales assistants!
Things I couldn’t live without: My friends and family, and a good book to read.

Doreen Sutherland

Senior Housing Support Worker

Happiest when: Meeting with my friends, eating, blethering (which I do alot of... both that is!) and having a laugh, walking the dogs (whatever the weather) and reading.
Scared of: Nothing really, but creepy crawlies i'm not fond of.
Music I like: I like all sorts, from Black Sabbath,
Bob Dyland to Pavarotti - although I draw the
line at Daniel O'Donnel... sorry Daniel.
Favourite Films: Lots and lots - Ice Age, Full Monty, Gladiator, all the Harry Potters, Lord of the Rings, Bridget Jones... I could go on and on!
Things that annoy me: Computers - I just don't understand!!!? Rude people, intolerance and injustice.
Things I couldn’t live without: Shower, books, family and jelly babies.
