This section is all about making you aware of some of the dangers that you could face.  This sections aim is to help you prepare and prevent incidents that could put your safety at risk.

Fire Safety

You probably know the basics to fire safety but this section is here to make you fully aware of all the hidden and preventable dangers that exist.

Checking Your Home
Make sure you haven't overloaded any plugs.

Check for worn out or taped up cables and leads, and replace any that you find.

Check for any hot plugs and sockets, fuses that blow for no obvious reason, flickering lights, scorch marks on sockets or plugs as these are all signs of loose wiring or other problems.

Keep matches and lighters in a place where children cannot reach.

Make sure lights aren't positioned near curtains and other materials that easily burn.

Check your furniture is fire-resistant.  If it was made before 1988 then it will not be fire-resistant.

If somebody in your house smokes then use a proper ashtray and make sure they can't be knocked over easily.

Using Candles Safely

Put them on a heat resistent surface.  TV's are not fire-resistent objects!

Put them in proper holders so that they won't fall over.

Don't put candles near curtains or other fabrics.

Keep candles out of draughts.

Make sure there is at least 3 feet (one metre) between a candle and any surface above it.

Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

Leave space (about 10cm) between each candle.

If there is any chance you may lean across a candle and forget it's there then move it somewhere else!

Don't move candles when they are burning.

Never leave a candle burning if you are leaving the room.

Never go to sleep with a candle still burning.

Nights Out

Everyone wants to make the most of their night out.  One way to make sure that you have the best night out you can is to make sure that you, and your friends, are safe.

Things that you should think about are;

How much are you drinking?  How much is too much?

Where your drink is - you should never leave your drink unattended.

Where are your friends?  Stick together!

How are you going to get home?
