All of the big decisions and plans that are made at Calman are agreed by a 'Board of Management'. Here's a little bit about them:
Fiona Brown (Chair)
What do you do as a day job?
I worked as a social worker in Raigmore for twenty years and decided to stop full time work in the late 90s. I do not have a regular job, but fill in where things are needing to be done on a voluntary basis.
What is your role at Calman?
I am a board member
Why do you want to help Calman?
When I was working, I was very aware that there were very few places where young people over 16 could go for advice or support. Calman offers that and in a way which values people for who they are and the potential that each one has to achieve maybe more than they themselves expect. When I joined the board, I wanted to be involved in an organisation that has this positive approach.
Willie Wylie
What do you do as a day job?
I am a retired Bank Area Manager. I do not have a day job as such. Apart from my role in Calman Trust I do voluntary work as Treasurer of four charitable organisations. Including my work for Calman Trust this takes about a day and a half each week.
What is your role at Calman?
I am one of the Directors of Calman Trust and also the Secretary and Treasurer of the company.
Why do you want to help Calman?
I have been involved in voluntary work with vulnerable people for many years, the elderly and the young, through Thomas Chalmers Housing Association (TCHA). (Calman Trust was, in fact, incorporated in 1998 to take over the work with young people in Invergordon when TCHA decided to terminate that work.) My role in Calman Trust enables me to make a contribution to help young people using the knowledge and experience gained over 40 years in a bank.
Julia Overton
What do you do as a day job?
I am currently involved in running a Fair Trade shop in Ross-shire, before this I spent twenty years working as an Occupational Therapist.
What is your role at Calman?
I am a member of the Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for overseeing the development of the organisation.
Why do you want to help Calman?
I was greatly impressed by the commitment & enthusiasm of the staff & board members, & the difference that the service provided by the Calman Trust makes to the lives of many young people in our local area.
