Your Rights

Once you have signed a contract and become a tenant you:

Have the absolute legal right to remain, undisturbed, in your home until you choose to leave - provided you comply with the terms of this contract.

Have the right to live you life free from harassment from your neighbours - including racial abuse or threats of violence.  If problems do occur then contack your landlord and/or the police straight away.

Have the right to be treated fairly by your landlord, and insit that they meet their legal responsibilities to you under the lease.

Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities are:

  • To pay your rent on time and in full.
  • To occupy and furnish the property.
  • To decorate and keep the house clean and tidy.
  • To behave reasonably at all times and to make sure your visitors do the same.
  • To keep the noise down.
  • To "get on" with your neighbours.
  • To prevent illegal and dangerous activities in your home.
  • To put your rubbish out for collection.
  • To clean any common areas such as stairs, landings and bin areas.
  • To cut any grass and/or hedges as needed.
  • To inform your landlord of any repairs required or damage caused.
  • To allow your landlord access for inspection purposes and to carry out repairs - this is most important for gas and electrical safety checks.
