How to tackle common maintenance problems

 Toilet won't stop flushing?

If your toilet won't stop flushing then you will have to lift up the cistern cover and pull the plastic float inside it as high up as you can to stop the water.

You should then phone your landlord and ask him to send round a plumber.

Blocked Sinks and Drains

If you have a blocked sink or drain you can first try pouring boiling water down the plug hole to loosen the blockage, then use your plunger.

To reduce the chance of a blockage pour drain cleaner down your drains every now and again.

 Changing a fuse

Unscrew the screw that holds the two halves of the plug together.  Then, lever out the old fuse and replace it with a new one of the same amperage...

Hole in the Wall

If you have a small hole or crack in your wall then you'll need a putty knife.  Fill in the hole with spackle and leave to dry.  Once it's dry sand it smooth.

If the hole is bigger than 3.5cm then you may have to use some self-adhesive drywall tape over the hole.  Then apply the spackle, leave to dry and sand it smooth.
